New I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form Deadline May 8, 2013
Form I-9 is the standard form issued by the USCIS (The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) that every business must use to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all individuals hired in the United States — both citizens and non-citizens must complete this form. Further, the employer must ensure that the form is completed correctly for each individual they hire.
The new I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form is very different from previous versions and asks for new data. It had a 60-day implementation period during which time both the new and old form versions may be used. As of May 8, 2013, only the new Form I-9 may be used.
I-9 compliance is critical. Additionally, employers will be required to use the new form for all new hires and for any rehires or re-verifications when they would normally use section 3.
